Organized treks in Nepal

Lodge Treks Many people prefer to avoid the daily haggling for food and shelter. Most trekking companies offer a package that includes a guide, porter and accommodation for a fixed daily rate. Depending on the company, food may or may not be included in the cost. This arrangement works best with a single trekker or a group of less than five. Group Lodge Treks A number of adventure travel companies offer escorted lodge treks, which they often call ‘teahouse treks’. Most companies take over an entire lodge for their group and provide all food and accommodation as part of the package. Porters carry your gear, and a guide travels with the group during the day and handles all the arrangements for meals and dealings with bureaucracy. This way of arranging your trek can be particularly useful in the busy autumn season, when lodges are full. Camping Treks Most group camping treks are organized in advance by adventure travel companies abroad. These companies provide ...

How Long to Trek in Nepal?

Trekking in Nepal Himalaya involves many days of walking. To experience the hill country, you should allow yourself at least two weeks. Unless you have a month or more at your disposal, you’ll probably manage only one trek during your visit. In any event, you’ll want to spend a few days in Kathmandu and possibly visit Pokhara and a jungle lodge in Chitwan while you are in Nepal. The real trek in Nepal lasts three weeks at least. It is my heartiest opinion. One Week Trek If you have allowed yourself only one week in Nepal, you won’t have time to do any serious trekking, especially if you also want to do some sightseeing in Kathmandu. You could do a short walk on the Kathmandu valley rim, head to Pokhara and do some day hikes, or a three- or four-day trek to Ghorapani (2850 m) or Ghandruk (1940 m). It is a small part of Around Annapurna trek. Two Weeks With two weeks you could trek to Annapurna base camp (4130 m), Langtang or fly to Lukla (2860 m) and walk to Sherpa vi...

Foods to be enjoyed on an Everest Base Camp trek

What is definitely worth tasting on the Everest Base Camp Trek? At some point during the Everest trek and during your time in Nepal, I definitely recommend tasting the traditional Nepalese food Dal Bhaat which is made from boiled rice with a special sauce and vegetable. There are many variations on the Dal Bhaat filling and its taste will depend on the landlady’s ingredients. Dal Bhaat is eaten with your hands. It’s a nourishing, natural and tasty food. Garlic soup Garlic soup is recommended by trekking guides as a natural means of avoiding altitude sickness. It will help you to acclimatise to the mountains better. Garlic soup has an interesting taste and together with Tibetan bread or Chapatti will provide you with a light refreshing meal. Yak steak Yak steak. The Everest Base Camp Trek or Annapurna Circuit Trek is the true place to sample a Yak steak. Before you order, ask your guide or bearer to consult the kitchen about how fresh the yak steak is, so that you ...
