Nagarjuna Jamacho Monastery Day Hiking

Nagarjun Hiking is a fabulous day trip to the nearest hill site of Kathmandu Valley. It is also popular as Jamacho Monastery Hiking. It is enclosed by a thick forest inside the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. It takes about two and half hours of walking up to the hill. Jamacho Gumba lies at the top of the hill, which is a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage place. It is a short and easy hiking, but offers splendid experiences.


Jamacho view point (2128m) offers the best views of northern Himalayan ranges and the best view of the Kathmandu Valley from the viewpoint beside the monastery. The Everest and Langtang Himalayan ranges are dazzling from here. Another rich aspect of hiking in Nagarjun is flora and fauna. According to the data of National park the vegetation consists of a diverse plant species including pine, oak, rhododendron and others. The park has sheltered several species of mammals like Himalayan black bear, leopard, jungle cats, and Rhesus monkey. There is also a historical palace called Nagarjun Durbar owned by former royal families.

During the day hike to Nagarjun, one can feel peace state of mind with natural setting and its the best place to meditate. Hikers meet several Buddhist monks paying their homage at the monastery. Entrance permission is needed to hike around the park, which can be bought at the entrance gate.

Traditional costume of Nepal Talking about traditional costume of Nepal it would be right to say not "costume" but "costumes" because though Nepal is a small country there are many ethnic groups living here and each group has their unique traditional dress. I will tell about a few that I find most interesting. The Newars .
